Conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, aneurysms, and valvular disorders place a significant burden on healthcare systems and contribute to reduced quality of life for affected individuals. Early diagnosis, effective treatment planning, and accurate assessment of disease progression are therefore critical components of modern cardiovascular care.

Advances in medical imaging and computational technologies have enabled new approaches for studying the cardiovascular system. One such approach is Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), a numerical modeling technique used to simulate blood flow within the heart and blood vessels. By analyzing factors such as velocity, pressure, and wall shear stress, CFD provides information in regards to cardiovascular function that may not be obtainable through conventional imaging alone.

In cardiology, CFD modeling is increasingly used to investigate the development of cardiovascular diseases, evaluate patient-specific risk factors, and support clinical decision-making. The ability to create personalized simulations based on medical imaging data has expanded the potential for precision medicine and improved treatment outcomes. As computational methods continue to advance, CFD is becoming an increasingly valuable tool in both cardiovascular research and clinical practice.

References

The World Health Organization.
